JENNY CRAIG DIET: History, Success, Pros & Cons

The Jenny Craig diet is one of the most popular weight-loss programs available on the market today. This program, which is not restricted to food, has been hailed as one of the most successful weight-loss programs. However, this does not mean the plan is without cons, some of which will be explored below. Jenny Craig consists of prepackaged low-calorie foods, an exercise plan, and a consultant reachable via phone or in person for support.

The Jenny Craig program was first established in 1983 by Jenny and her husband Sig Craig in Australia. It involves a 3-level food, exercise, and mind plan to help people not only lose weight but also keep it off completely. The first level trains the participants on how to eat their favorite foods in small and regular portions while the second level deals with how to increase energy levels using simple activities. On the third level, participants are trained to establish a balance in their lives in a way that enables them to maintain their ideal weight and continue with a healthy diet.

The program does not restrict any kind of foods but instead educates on what foods are high in calories and fats and how to eat them in moderation. Non-starchy veggies such as salads, peppers, and tomatoes can be eaten freely. Jenny Craig’s plan centers around the choice of low-fat foods that should be rich in fiber, water, and proteins.

Pros

One of the main advantages of the Jenny Craig diet is that clients can tailor the program based on their current weight, goals, and body type. Additionally, the one-on-one consultation through a toll-free number or in person at Jenny Craig centers makes the program more effective and focused. The diet program is also convenient since meals are delivered ready for preparation to clients based on their individual needs.

Cons

The main con of the Jenny Craig diet is that the pre-prepackaged foods are a bit pricey, but this balances with the convenience offered. The initial sign-up costs and monthly fees can be prohibitive for many people seeking to lose weight and this has been a major challenge for many willing participants.

The diet program has been successful so far and has spread beyond Australia to New Zealand, the United States, and Puerto Rico.
